nView Multi-Display Technology
There are numerous benefits to running multiple monitors within the Windows environment that can simplify even the most mundane of everyday tasks. Many more users are adopting this multi-display solution that can support any combination of computer monitors, television sets, projectors and digital flat panels, showing true flexibility for both the home and work PC. The availability of a secondary display device can significantly improve upon a much needed Windows desk space for several applications, a much cheaper alternative of purchasing a much larger display to accommodate the space but offset with the hefty price tag. Another useful real world application includes the ability to replicate a display image upon two output devices for a presentation or classroom environment. Imagine a professor perusing around a class itinerary while simultaneously outputting on a projector to a lecture hall of hundreds of students.

Normally to accomplish a multi-display scenario, one must include two or more VGA cards within the computer system connected to two or more displays. A hardware solution was created in the form of a single VGA card with a dual head output connector, whether it is a standard DB15 (analog), DVI (analog/digital) or TV (RCA/S-Video) connector.

The patent pending NVIDIA nView™ technology incorporated both the hardware and software technologies that can allow any novice user to easily set up. With the release of the GeForce4, many revolutionary components were introduced such as the integrated dual RAMDACs, necessary for maximum resolution of 2048x1536 on both computer monitors, dual LVDS transmitters for hi-res LCD panels as well as dual integrated TMDS transmitters for a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 on digital flat panels.

Many of the software improvements that utilize this ground-breaking technology come included within the newer NVIDIA Detonator drivers, version 27.20/27.30 or later. Therefore, there are no additional software necessary since the nView feature is built within the NVIDIA Unified Driver Architecture™ driver format. Several features were assimilated within the multi-monitor driver setup for improved control and limitless flexibilities. Some of the unique features of nView include the following:

  • Desktop Management
    • Conveniently change any aspect of the desktop display through an easy access task icon or window sub-menus that can summon the nView Desktop Management window.
  • Distinct User Profiles
    • Customizable settings on the desktop can be created and loaded whenever a user logs into a community computer. An example includes a user that prefers placing all the icons across the top of his computer screen, but when another user logs into the same computer, loads his individual profile that places all the icons towards the side of the screen.
  • Window Management
    • Location of a window can be kept into memory regarding placement, size or even window properties when maximizing a window.
  • Application Management
    • Ideal for users who prefer opening applications such as Internet Explorer® in different locations on screen upon bootup, within a particular display or when using an Internet search engine.
  • Window Effects
    • Several useful tools are at your disposal including the Zoom feature that can be utilized for viewing small text or an indiscernible image. The Transparency feature gives a dragged window a see-through or opaque appearance to allow the view of the contents of a window in the background.
