EVGA IN ANANDTECH LABS: e-GeForce 6800 Ultra Extreme Edition

EVGA.com e-GeForce 6800 Ultra Extreme Edition recently graced the labs of AnandTech.com, being compared to ATI's complete lineup along with Leadtek's GeForce 6800.

Under the scrutiny of AnandTech's reviewer, Derek Wilson, he pointed out that there were a few non-standard additions to the contents of the e-GeForce 6800 Ultra Extreme Edition. The Tonberry HSF sticker, along with the increased overclockability of the their unit was highlighted:

"This particular 6800UE has a core clock speed of 450MHz and a memory data rate of 1.2GHz. We received our sample clocked at 460, but later received an update from EVGA that they would be shipping them at a lower speed. As we saw in our FarCry v1.2 patch article, this card was perfectly stable at 460 MHz, though mileage may vary."

The review goes on to compare the performance of the e-GeForce 6800 Ultra Extreme Edition against ATI's X800 platform, performing benchmarks on a multitude of current and popular games today. But the review goes one step further in providing a price/performance ratio for each chart, comprehensively detailing the added advantages of the NVIDIA parts over ATI's offerings.

"If something on the performance level of a 9800 XT or 5950 Ultra is desired, the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 is the way to go, every time. It's cheaper than both previous generation top-of-the-line cards, and offers better consistent performance and scalability than both."

"The GeForce 6800, while not the most impressive performer that we've seen, certainly improves on the performance of the 5950 Ultra and 9800 XT with a much lower cost than both. Unless an application that requires 256MBs of video RAM is key in the decision-making process, the 6800 is a better choice right now than the former top-of-the-line cards, even at their reduced prices."

"The 6800 GT leads the X800 Pro in value more often than not...When everything is said and done, the 6800 GT gets our recommendation despite the close performance."

And for those with the deepest hunger (or pockets) for graphics-crunching power, AnandTech had this to say about the e-GeForce 6800 Ultra Extreme Edition over the X800 XT Platinum Edition:

"We can also see the 6800UE leading the X800XTPE most of the time as well."
